READ

But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).

“Before I take you to the ballgame you have to clean your room,” said a father to his son. “If you don’t hit your quota you don’t get a bonus,” said the boss to the salesman. Pressure! Notice that Jesus didn’t wait for us to shape up before He allowed Himself to be nailed to the cross on our behalf. He didn’t wait for us to prove that we were worth saving. While we were sinners, Christ died for us. This is the selfless love that knows no bounds.

REFLECT

Under what circumstances would you make a significant sacrifice for someone who didn’t really deserve it?

RESPOND

Prayer:  O Holy Spirit, increase my faith that I may never take for granted the love that stands behind your sacrifice for me and for all sinners.  Grant this in the name of Jesus, Your Son, my Lord and Savior.  Amen.
