READ
We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.
(I John 4:19-21)
True love among humans must take its cue from God Himself. As sinful people we tend to be selfish with our love. We like to determine who is worthy of our love. Not so with the Lord. The love God has for us is unconditional. God does not demand something from us before He loves us. As followers of a loving Lord, we don’t demand something from one another before we love each other. By faith, we are brothers and sisters in Christ. There may be times we don’t see eye-to-eye, but we love one another as we are loved by Christ.
REFLECT
When is it difficult for you to love a fellow believers?
RESPOND
Prayer: Gracious Jesus, I praise and honor You for the never-ending love You have for me and for all sinners. Give me a deeper appreciation for Your love that moved You to leave the glories of heaven to rescue me from sin and death and hell, that I may embrace others with the same love. I pray and praise in Your holy name. Amen.
