READ
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
(Ephesians 2:8-10)
If you look close enough You might find a kind of math equation in these verses: Grace + Faith = Salvation. Our salvation has nothing to do with our works. Jesus did it all. Does this mean we are not expected to do good works? Of course not. James reminds us that “faith without works is dead” (James, chapter 2). We do not perform good works so that we will be saved. We do good works because we are saved. We do good works, not because we have to, but because we get to. Works of love and service are the natural outcome of one who loves and trusts the Lord.
REFLECT
How does your God-given faith encourage works of service in your life’s journey?
RESPOND
Prayer: Lord Jesus, give me the faith to live out the salvation You have won for me through the cross and the open tomb. Use me to be Your voice and Your hands in this world of hurt. I pray this through Your holy and powerful name. Amen.
