READ

We love because he first loved us (I John 4:19).

Christianity is the only religion that starts with God. Every other worldly religion teaches that one must first appease their god before he will offer his love. These teachings indicate that people must prove they are worthy of their god’s love. The Christian faith teaches the truth that there is nothing within sinners that deserves the love of God. The joy of the Christian faith is that the Lord loves us in spite of our sin. It is His love that moved Him to be our Savior through the cross and empty tomb. It is because He loved us that we can love Him. Without Him there would be no love.

REFLECT

How does the Lord’s love for you serve as the basis of your relationship with Him?

RESPOND

Prayer: Gracious Lord, I am fully aware of my sin. I cannot impress you with good works. I do not deserve Your love. I am ever thankful for Your grace showered on me simply because You love me. In response to Your love for me, I love You with all my heart, soul, and mind. I pray and praise in Your holy name. Amen.
