READ

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

(II Corinthians 12:9)

Paul was inflicted with, what he called, “a thorn in the flesh.” Three times he asked the Lord to remove it. Instead, it was the Lord’s desire to use that thorn to bring Paul to the realization that God’s grace raises us above any problems or trials we experience. Paul was able to boast about his weaknesses and give thanks that the Lord would never allow any sorrow or suffering to prohibit him from living out his faith. How important it is, when we are plagued by problems, to understand that the Lord can, and will, use them to help us grow in faith toward Him and in loving care for one another.

REFLECT

What problem still pesters you, even though you prayed for it to go away? How is God using it to help you grow in faith toward Him and in care for others?

RESPOND

Prayer: Heavenly Father, give me the faith to trust that You use all things, even the challenging things, in my life to bring me closer to You. In Your holy name I pray.  Amen.
