READ

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep (John 10:11).

Mark tell us “When (Jesus) saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd” (Mark 9:36). People are still harassed and helpless as we all live with the effects of sin. On a larger scale there are wars and rumors of war. Closer to home, politics causes fractured friendships. Our homes find fractured families. Even our hearts are struck with guilt and shame. We need a shepherd to guide us to the green pastures and the still waters of peace. The peace Jesus gives is more than the absence of war, or violence, or conflict. Jesus gives the peace that calms our hearts and comforts our souls in the midst of pains and problems. His is the peace that promises He will use all things for good in our lives.

REFLECT

What problem in your life needs the peace of Christ?

RESPOND

Prayer: Gracious Lord, at times I am harassed by the troubles around me and helpless in finding peace. Guide me to the green pastures and still waters of Your peace that I may live secure in Your love. I pray in Your name and to Your glory.  Amen.
