READ

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people  for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way (I Timothy 1:16-17).

It is amazing that St. Paul encouraged his readers to pray for rulers and political figures, when his was a time that many governmental leaders opposed the Christian faith. We Christians become upset with our leaders who criticize the Christian Church as being intolerant because we do not embrace morals that are not Biblical. Paul tells us to pray for these people. No, we are not to pray for their downfall. We are to pray that they would govern and lead with the understanding that they represent the Lord and are called to seek His wisdom and His way in all decisions.

REFLECT

Have you prayed for the leaders that govern contrary to God’s Word?

RESPOND

Prayer: Heavenly Father, bless all those in positions of governing. Give them hearts that seek Your will that we may live in Your peace. In Your precious and powerful name I pray.  Amen.
