READ

When he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

(I Corinthians 11:24-25)

Would anyone with a cupboard filled with food intentionally starve himself? We would question the mental capacity of that person. Who in their right mind would starve their body? A more perplexing question is this: “Who in their right mind would starve their soul?” This is exactly what happens when Christians deprive themselves of the soul nourishing food of the Lord’s Supper. In, with, and under the bread and wine of Holy Communion, Jesus gives us His true Body and Blood to strengthen our faith and to forgive our sin. This meal gives us new life today and life eternal in heaven. Don’t starve yourself, for you are invited to come often.

REFLECT

How often are you at the Lord’s Table?

RESPOND

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your gift of faith and forgiveness that comes in the Holy Supper You prepare for me. Bless me through this meal that I may be strengthened to serve You daily. I pray in Your name.  Amen.
