READ

Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

(John 20:26-29)

A week later Jesus appeared to His disciples again. This time Thomas is with them. Jesus invites Thomas to engage with the proof he demanded a week earlier. Because Thomas sees the Savior, he believes. In our times of doubt, how can we engage with Jesus? We don’t have the same opportunity as Thomas. However, the Lord has given us an opportunity to engage with Him through His Word. When doubt overshadows us, we can open the Bible and listen to Jesus speak words of assurance, which give us hope and peace. We can see Jesus’ compassionate actions, which remind us that He cares for all who are hurting.

REFLECT

How have you grown in faith through an episode of doubt?

RESPOND

Prayer: Blessed Lord, keep me active in Your Word, that I may, with the eyes of faith, see Your love in action. I pray this in Your loving name. Amen.
