I don't know or have never met Reverend Dr. Dan, but I lost my dad two years ago, and I know it's a very sad and difficult thing to endure. I remember finding comfort in kissing the icon of Jesus Christ during my sorrow, and He became real, life-like, almost sunburned, as strange as that may sound, and he kissed me back on the cheek. From that point on in my life, I became dedicated to knowing Jesus Christ and the Bible personally and regularly. I truly believe life in the spiritual realm where God exists within the Trinity, is perfect. He looks like a kindhearted soul, and must have been an inspiration to others every day. I hope he can meet my father in that better world, so that my father can feel connected in some way to my current studies here in the Department of Education. I pray for Dr Rev Dan's family and that you are comforted by the love of what seems like a very caring community at Concordia University Mequon. May you find laughter in some of the fun and cute things he probably said often.

This sunset gave me a sense of peace about God's beauty the other day. Some things are so beautiful.

I first met Dan at CUW in the office about 10 years ago and upon learning my name, he always greeted me by name when I saw him in the hallway. We didn't work closely, but I was honored to have him greet me by name upon every encounter.

Dan was always positive, kind and caring. One small example: When we worked together at CUW, he would often ask (and take an interest in) what plans I had for the coming weekend. I was so blessed to work with and for Dan at CUW and ROL. He was always encouraging to all the worship team members, choir members, and me. I loved how he was there Saturday mornings at ROL when I came in for rehearsal to offer coffee, talk or pray together.

We have always looked forward to Pastor Paavola’s sermons, bible studies, and the Pastor and the Professor podcasts. We feel blessed to have known him!

Dr. Paavola was my first and last teacher at Concordia University Wisconsin and definitely the most beloved. Although he is in a better place with Jesus Christ our Lord, he will be missed by all who knew him here on earth.

His life was a living example of ways to show that you care for others in especially small but important ways.
