Take 5: Connected to God Through Prayer

AS WE GATHER: As Christians, we have the joy and blessing to be a people of prayer. Prayer is for everyone. All ages, all abilities, all vocations, all people are instructed to be in prayer. If you are just learning, keep it simple and read a prayer or say the Lord’s Prayer. Then find a time to pray regularly and make it a part of your routine. If you already have a prayer routine challenge yourself to pray creatively each day, interchanging the people and things for which you pray. If you have all of that down, how about praying for our government officials, world events and even your enemies! As Jesus says in Matthew 5:44 “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” Take your concerns, joys, and sorrows, to the Lord in prayer!

The Message

As we gather we are encouraged to “Take 5.” In these next five weeks of worship we hear the Lord call us to a deeper purpose in life and a greater meaning. May the Lord bless our worship that we may hear His Words of life and respond with generous gratitude.

What’s in A Name? New Meaning

As we gather in the Lord’s name, our worship series is, What’s In A Name? A number of times the Lord changed the names of those He called and blessed with specific tasks. When we were called into faith through the power of God’s Word in the waters of baptism, we were baptized “in the name of Jesus” (Acts 2:38). Saul, a persecutor of the Christians, is visited by the risen Jesus and called to faith. Know known as “Paul,” this man becomes a servant of Christ and a leader of the Church’s mission. From Paul we learn repentance, humility and service.

In worship today we hear how Jacob wrestled with the Lord through the night and the Lord changed his name to “Israel,” He strives with God. Have you ever wrestled with the challenges of life? Jacob will help us understand how wrestling with God strengthens faith.
