Time to Talk

FIL Ministries helps people reach up to God, reach in to each other, and reach out to the world. One of the ways we do that is by providing relevant, helpful, and meaningful messages each week based in the Scriptures, which we believe to be the inspired Word of God. We keep those messages available […]

Why are you waiting to answer the call?

What is keeping you from picking up God’s call? Too busy? Too distracted? Too worried about what might happen or what others might say about you? God has put you at this time and this place- surrounded by these people- for his purpose. Jesus has answered the call to save you. Why are you waiting to answer his call?

Self-controlled, Sober-minded Sufferers

In the Lord’s sanctuary, we are protected from the challenges of the world. Here, in worship, we are fed by the Word and we encourage one another in the faith. When we leave this house of worship we enter a world that is difficult to navigate due to the blatant disrespect for the manner of life God intended. Peter reminds us to be self-controlled and sober-minded that we may live healthy lives.

Prepare to Share

Today we are confronted with a question, “Are you prepared to explain why you follow Jesus?” As much as the world can be critical of the Christian faith, it notices a difference in us. They notice our peace in times of trouble and our confidence in the promise of eternal life. We need to be prepared to share why we possess this faith in Christ and how it makes a difference in our lives.

Beauty Marks

We think about what is beautiful and who is truly beautiful. Beauty seems to be what is visually appealing, something that is able to get all of our attention. Peter is encouraging us to view beauty through the eyes of God, who looks at the heart--the imperishable beauty that comes only from our indestructible God. Consider along with us today, “What are the true marks of beauty?”

Holy Living

We hear how precious life is because our precious Savior ransomed us for something better in life. How easy it is for us to get caught up in the things of the world, allowing them to define who we are and how we look at others. Jesus frees us from such small thinking and births us into a fuller view of life.

Seeing 20/20 – What’s Your North Star?

We are asked, “How do we navigate this life?” We need to examine what is our motivation for living and what is our goal in life. For what do we live? We are enticed by the things of the world. But the things of the world change, fade away and leave us lost and lonely. It is Christ alone who gives life meaning and purpose. It is only through Jesus that we can find peace and contentment in this world and the promise of a perfect world to come.

Waiting With God

AS WE GATHER we know that so much of Christmas is about waiting—waiting for a break from school and work; waiting to gather with loved ones; waiting to open presents. 2,000 years ago, people waited for the Savior. Together, we wait with God and we look to the example of Joseph, a man who waited for God’s Son to be born. Waiting with God requires patience and peace, but His presents and His presence are worth it.

Worshipping With Others

AS WE GATHER during these weeks of Advent, our theme is “WITH.” The prophet promised that the Messiah who was to come would be Immanuel—“God with Us.” The truth that God is always with us is a miracle that provides us comfort and peace, hope and life. Today in worship we understand that God meets us here as He promises to be with us in His Word and Sacrament. We gather here with the Lord and each other, week after week, because we need what God offers, namely faith and forgiveness, life and salvation.

TRUTH: The Grave Truth

AS WE GATHER we hear Jesus announce that He is “the way, and the truth, and the life,” and that no one comes to the Father except through Him. On a road map we can find many different roads that lead to the same place, except on certain islands. There is only one bridge and one way to get a vehicle onto the island. Jesus teaches this truth, “I am the way… no one comes to the Father except through me.” Heaven is opened for those who live and believe in Jesus. The grave truth is that there are not many ways…only one. This truth of God needs to be shared. Although there is only way, everyone is invited to join in the journey.
