We journey with Jesus as He heads toward Jerusalem with one mission in mind: saving the human race from sin, death and hell. But while Jesus makes His way to the Holy City He is continuously interrupted. However, Jesus considers each interruption to be a ministry opportunity. This evening we see how Jesus is welcoming the little children, but the disciples interrupt and discourage parents from bringing their children to Jesus. Jesus uses this as an opportunity to instruct. Irony is defined as, “Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs.” Irony is found in the Gospels as God uses the actions of imperfect people to accomplish His perfect will. We are confronted with the “The Irony of Pledging.” It is ironic that the People of God, who were told to make no covenants with foreign nations call out for Jesus crucifixion as they claim they have no king except Caesar. We continue our journey with Jesus as He heads toward Jerusalem with one mission in mind: saving the human race from sin, death and hell. But while Jesus makes His way to the Holy City He is continuously interrupted. However, Jesus considers each interruption to be a ministry opportunity. We see how Jesus approaches the Temple to worship, but is interrupted by those who demand that He clearly tell them if He is the Christ, the Messiah. Irony is defined as, “Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs.” Irony is found in the Gospels as God uses the actions of imperfect people to accomplish His perfect will. Today we are confronted with the “The Irony of Prayer.” As Pilate is prepared to set Jesus free the people petition for the Lord's death. How ironic that they cry out, “Let His blood be on us and on our children!” Without His blood on us we face only death. We continue our journey with Jesus as He heads toward Jerusalem with one mission in mind: saving the human race from sin, death and hell. But while Jesus makes His way to the Holy City He is continuously interrupted. However, Jesus considers each interruption to be a ministry opportunity. We see how Jesus' prayer is interrupted by those who want to learn to pray. Irony is defined as, “Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs.” Irony is found in the Gospels as God uses the actions of imperfect people to accomplish His perfect will. Today we are confronted with the “The Irony of Prophecy,” as the High Priest, Caiaphas, who makes plans to kill Jesus, justifies his actions by saying, “You do not realize that it is better for you that one man dies for the people than that the whole nation perish.”March 2013
