As we gather in worship during these weekends of Advent we celebrate the joy we have in the coming of Jesus, our Savior. We especially turn to Paul’s letter to the Philippians, where his theme is joy. In this season we sing, “Joy to the World,” remembering that true joy is found because the Lord comes to us. As we gather we understand that we are called by the Lord to this place to be fed by His Word and Sacraments and then to offer our praise in response to His generosity seen through the free gift of sin forgiven and life eternal. As we gather we hear the joy of sharing the Good News of Jesus and His gift of new life through faith in Him. Our “Life Tree” ministry assists us in reaching out to our community as we engage them in the modern cultural questions. Today we hear about this ministry and our ability to grow in faith through it. As we gather on this weekend we take comfort in the fact that Jesus, our King, rules and reigns, not only the heavens, but the earth as well. Though the darkness of sin and fear and death continue to lurk and to tempt, Jesus Christ continues to be the Light of the world, the Light no darkness can overcome. The last word is that we do not fear because God has rescued us and entrusts us to the saving, loving, secure reign of His Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. As we gather we make our annual commitment to the work of the Lord through the mission and ministry of First Immanuel Lutheran. The Lord has so generously given us His great gifts—both material and spiritual. In response to His generosity, we generously respond out of the blessings He daily showers on us. As we gather to worship the Lord we hear how generous He truly is. He not only intentionally created each one of us, but He also redeemed us through His sacrifice. What transforms our lives is the love of our God. Today we hear how we put our trust, not in our provisions, but in our Provider. As we gather to worship the Lord we hear how generous He truly is. He not only intentionally created each one of us, but He also redeemed us through His sacrifice. What transforms our lives is the love of our God. Today we hear about the dangerous side effects of wealth and the antidote to those side effects. As we gather to worship the Lord we hear how generous He truly is. He not only intentionally created each one of us, but He also redeemed us through His sacrifice. What transforms our lives is the love of our God. We, who receive the manifold gifts of our generous God, in turn share those gifts in generous ways. As we gather to worship the Lord of our hearts and homes we seek “God’s Blueprint for our Homes.” We learn how the Lord has established our homes to be the place where faith is nurtured.
